Subclass 500 & the Genuine Student Requirement

  • Visa Application Charge, AUD 2,000Increased from AUD 1,600 on 1 July 2025, per the Department of Home Affairs.
  • Genuine Student (GS) RequirementReplaced the earlier Genuine Temporary Entrant test for applications from 23 March 2024 onward, assesses your genuine intent to study.
  • Financial Capacity, AUD 29,710Required living-cost proof for a single applicant; higher amounts apply with dependants.
  • Work RightsUp to 48 hours per fortnight during term, unlimited during official breaks.

India moved to Evidence Level 3 (strictest tier)

Confirmed by the Minister of State for External Affairs in Parliament, this reverts arrangements to pre-September-2025 levels. EL3 requires stronger documentation of financial capacity, English ability, and genuine study intent at the time of lodgement.
